The coaching session

What To expect

Firstly, What Coaching Is (and Isn’t)

To help set expectations, it’s useful to clarify what coaching involves - and what it doesn’t. Coaching is a collaborative, forward-focused process, not advice-giving or therapy.

Coaching is:

  • A thought-provoking, confidential partnership that supports your growth and self-discovery

  • Focused on your goals, values, insights, and personal accountability

  •

Coaching isn’t:

  • Advice, mentoring, consulting, or telling you what to do

  • Counselling, therapy, or treatment for mental health concerns

If something outside the scope of coaching arises, I may suggest that you seek support from a relevant professional.

Coaching sessions are structured conversations designed to help you explore your goals, challenges, and opportunities for growth. As your coach, I’ll partner with you in a thought-provoking and creative process that supports your thinking and self-discovery - without offering advice or telling you what to do.

A Typical Session Flow

While every coaching conversation is unique, sessions often follow a general structure:

1. Check-in

We’ll begin by briefly checking in - how you’re arriving, what’s on your mind, and how you’re feeling today.

2. Session Contracting

You’ll choose the topic or area you'd like to explore in this session. We’ll agree on a clear focus and what success

would look like by the end of our time together.

3. Exploration

This is where the deeper work happens. Through open questions, reflection, and active listening, I’ll support you in thinking through the topic from different angles. I may offer observations or reflections, but will always ask if you're comfortable hearing them first.

4. Insight and Action

We’ll look at what you’re learning, what insights are emerging, and what actions or next steps feel right for you. Coaching helps you move from awareness to meaningful progress - always on your terms.

5. Wrap-up

We’ll end with a summary of key takeaways and check in on how the session went for you. You’re welcome to reflect further between sessions if helpful.

Your Role

You are the expert on your life and your goals. Coaching isn’t about advice-giving - it’s about creating space for your own clarity, decisions, and growth. You’ll get the most from your sessions by showing up openly and honestly, willing to reflect and take ownership of your path forward.
